Auditor’s Office arrests former Yalobusha County sheriff
JACKSON, Miss. (WTVA) – Special agents with the Auditor’s Office arrested the former sheriff of Yalobusha County.
Mississippi State Auditor Shad White demands Lance Humphreys repay $10,867.30.
Humphreys was indicted for embezzlement for allegedly stealing nearly $5,000 from the county’s Inmate Canteen Account. The sheriff’s office uses the account to provide education and recreational resources to county inmates.
He is accused of transferring money from the account directly to his personal bank account. The alleged transfers were made in 2018.
Humphreys lost re-election in 2019.
He faces up to 20 years in prison or $5,000 in fines.
