MARKS, Miss. (WLBT) – A Mississippi city clerk has been arrested for embezzling water and sewer funds.
On Thursday, State Auditor Shad White announced the arrest of Pamela McNutt, the former city clerk of Marks.
She is accused of embezzling payments made for water and sewer, court fines, and privilege license fees.
The incidents occurred between November 2017 and April 2021. A demand letter for $282,714.58 was given to McNutt at the time of her arrest.
“When your investigators have good prosecutors to work with, we are able to stop public corruption together and send the message that there is zero tolerance for theft of public funds,” White said.
McNutt faces up to 20 years in prison and $5,000 in fines if convicted. She is presumed innocent until convicted.
